By the light of the silvery moon, figures dance “between the shadows”, and cast two-dimensional silhouettes against Mono Lake’s Tufa’s. The shadow plays offer a form of storytelling throughout the night by creating the illusion of moving images and personifying everything we may refuse to acknowledge about ourselves. Perhaps this is why in the 1860s, Mark Twain found the lake to be a “lifeless, treeless, hideous desert…the loneliest place on earth.” On this full moon night, the quiet solitude inspired us to capture the night sky’s attempts to brush the earth, and connect us to our own shadows.

truly gorgeous. congrats, friend!
Thank you, João!
Hey Brad, you’re work is truly inspiring. I am headed to Arches later this month and if I can come up with a fraction of what you have done there I’ll be content. Incredible!
Thank you for your kind words, Murtaza. A few suggestions… Prepare for it to be pretty warm and try not to lose your cool amongst the overwhelming crowds. Remember, Arches is open 24/7, but camping is not permitted within 2 miles of any named arch, road, or trail. However, you can stay up all night shooting anywhere you would like to, but be aware that you probably won’t be the only one at the popular arches. Shoot me an email when you get back so I can have a look at your results. Have a great time!
Felicidades, un trabajo precioso
Muchas gracias, Cristina! Espero que lo están haciendo bien y como la nueva página web!
That just plain gorgeous!
[...] Not feeling well, still, I awoke this morning in serious need of inspiration. So, between trips to the bathroom, I managed to watch all of the following “inspirational” videos that I’d been saving up to do as separate posts. Enjoy! via Between the Shadows | Goldpaint Photography [...]
