Aurora Over Lake Superior In August 2025, we sailed from the Apostle Islands, Wisconsin, across Lake Superior to a remote island in the Canadian marine wilderness. Intending to photograph the Perseid Meteors, we rowed a dinghy from our sailboat to shore and hiked across the island to a rocky beach. But when darkness fell, the northern lights appeared in a show that lasted all night. A wonderful surprise!
