- Esther FlemingI have never seen a sundog/halo down south. I was under the impression that I had to travel to a colder climate. So, when I saw it as I was traveling down the interstate, I got excited. I took the first exit and searched for a place where I could stop to have a clear view.
- Chris MarlerTorres Del Paine National Park, Chile, March 2023. Patagonia had always been on my bucket-list, and it turned into the trip of a lifetime. This image was captured on one of those extraordinarily rare perfect mornings. The pink colors exploding in the sky prior to sunrise, the mountain reflection in the lake, no wind at all, and the serene setting was something I'll never forget. All this following a beautiful night of astrophotography at the same location. I'm so glad I stayed until sunrise.
- Thomas PiekunkaI had the privilege of joining my father on a trip to Patagonia and Antarctica in late 2023, not long ago. To say it was magical is an understatement. After many years of conflict, I spent 3 weeks with my father and just enjoyed his company and his many stories and he enjoyed me and mine.
- Jean Chase FarnumAt 25 degrees and 17 mph winds, a May midnight haze was clearing at Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park. I stood alone mesmerized by the tide rolling in. While perched on the stairway leading down into the natural rock formation, I could hear the distinct rumbles of Thunder Hole become stronger and stronger as the Milky Way rose. Acadia’s often colorful airglow sky engulfed the landscape casting distinct color variations from the misty horizon into the foamy waves and onto rocks below. Hundreds gather on summer days hoping to "experience" Thunder Hole. I feel humbled to have been able to have this encounter alone while illuminated by the night sky.
- Yoshiki NakamuraMilky Way was just about straight up on Mt. Rainier while the 15% moon started to shed the top of mountain.
- John WatkinsThis was taken at Yellowstone near the northeast entrance near a closed picnic area that we literally happened upon on a perfect night. There were some animals in the area, which made getting the shot an adventure. To me this shot has everything: A stream, a mountain, and a pool with the stars reflecting in it. I doubt I will ever be there again, and probably could not find it anyway. But it was a special location.
- Nancy Weeezy FormanIcelands unique landscape took me to Fagurholsmyri on a rainy gloomy November morning, An old Church, Graveyard with moss covered coffins, created a vivid atmospheric moody picture, the naked trees swooping in the foreground help to set the eerie image!
- Keith LiskThis is my favorite image of 2023 because it is the best meteor shower image that I have ever taken. Lake Irene in Rocky Mountain National Park provided an ideal foreground for the Perseid Meteors on August 12-13, 2023. This image is a composite of 48 exposures taken over a four hour period.
- Kirsten TuckerNight sky and astrophotography was not to be for me in 2023 but I did enjoy a really wonderful trip to Zimbabwe and Botswana! One evening we were photographing a murmuration of Red-billed Quelea and they passed in front of a feeding elephant.
- Diane RamthunUFO? Or International Space Station (ISS) sighting? I took this image standing in the reeds on the the Big Bay Lagoon, Madeline Island, Lake Superior. It was a lovely September evening, just after sunset, and a low fog was rolling in.
