Photographing the Aurora Borealis

Cold, winter temperatures,
fingertips exposed…
working my camera to capture each show composed.

Colors danced in the starry sky,
retreating, advancing, shimmering to great height;
merging into swirls…definitely, a true delight!

Green, pink, red, blue and purple,
“Auroras” – such an incredible sight…
happened in Norway on one extraordinary night.

This photo was one of my favorite captures from our time in Norway. I feel very fortunate to once again witness this wondrous interaction between solar particles and Earth’s atmosphere.

During the Leonids this November, only 1 meteor was captured, but I was not skunked ! The air glow and green tint of the summer night sky in the Oregon desert makes for colorful images. This image even captured a small meteor. Looking forward to what 2026 will bring!
