I had been capturing images of the moon for some time, and the final stacked and processed images were always in monochrome. My workflow was to capture a minimum of several hundred images of the moon and then analyze, stack, and sharpen in three programs, Planetary Image Pre-Processor, Autostakkert!, and Astra Image, respectively. I was fairly satisfied with the detail I could bring out of the moon’s craters and maria. Recently, however, I discovered a web article describing a process to bring out the inherent colors of the minerals in the moon’s surface materials using Photoshop. This image is one of my first attempts to capture and process a Mineral Moon.

My one astro focused trip this year was to Bryce Canyon and the surrounding area in June. We managed to shoot for five nights and I got a number of decent images. This one of Swamp Canyon is my favorite because of the balance created between the tree and the Milky Way, the leading lines into the canyon and the air glow in the night sky.
