By the light of the silvery moon, figures dance “between the shadows”, and cast two-dimensional silhouettes against Mono Lake’s Tufa’s. The shadow plays offer a form of storytelling throughout the night by creating the illusion of moving images and personifying everything we may refuse to acknowledge about ourselves. Perhaps this is why in the 1860s, Mark Twain found the lake to be a “lifeless, treeless, hideous desert…the loneliest place on earth.” On this full moon night, the quiet solitude inspired us to capture the night sky’s attempts to brush the earth, and connect us to our own shadows.
