This image was taken in late summer at Yellowstone National Park. It was really dark that night with the Milky Way vertical and bright in the sky, with Jupiter just above the horizon. When I processed the image, I was delighted to find that it captured geyser activity in the foreground. The vast night sky, the lake with reflections and the geysers made it my best of 2019.

I took this image of the Milky Way over Willow Bend in late autumn.  There was a bright light positioned on another barn about 200 yards away, and although I found this unexpected light intrusive to having a dark sky to shoot the Milky Way, I instead used the barn light to help light-paint my foreground.  For me, night sky photography isn’t just about subject matter.  It’s also the mood I want to create.

I took this in Arizona during monsoon season.  I liked the starry sky with the thunderstorm below.  After a long day of storm chasing, we were headed to the hotel when this one last storm popped up.  We pulled off the interstate and started shooting.  I was delighted when I saw the opportunity for stars.  It turned out to be one of my favorite pictures of the trip.

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.” Backpacking and hiking to places where other have not visited was always a dream but thanks to Brad, Doug and Thomas i am able to fulfill my dreams. My interest has turned into a commitment and this is the result. This image is special to me as this was taken by over coming both mental and physical challenges and the forces of nature (Thunderstorms).

With clouds mostly lifting, I took my brother who was visiting from North Carolina to check out Vermont’s night sky. Using methods and tools Brad shared for finding a Milky Way shot, I took him to Baker Pond in Brookfield. This is a pano of I believe 8 shots.

I chose this as my favorite because it represents my favorite trip of the year (to the Canary Island of La Palma) and found it to be an incredible place for astrophotography from the darkness of the sky and the fact that you can climb above most clouds.
