Here’s my favorite image of 2018 taken on the morning of March 23rd outside my B&B cabin in Delta Junction, Alaska. This aurora display began at about 2:00am local, reaching a peak near 4:30am when the aurora danced with incredible beauty. Needless to say, the celestial show was too amazing to examine each image in “real time,” but upon later examination this photograph really touched my spirit. At first, I saw what appeared to be the wings of an angel, then I noted between the wings the symbol representing “infinity.” Because of my own wife’s death from cancer, I quickly saw this image as a celestial angel and a reminder that love is both infinite and eternal. After posting the photo on one of my aurora forums, I received a request from a group representing parents who had lost a child to cancer. Other had also seen and understood the same celestial symbolism as I noted. Thus, “Aurora Angel” will forever be a treasured photograph for me, one that I was happy to share with other special people. EXIF data: Nikon D750, ISO 3200, 6 seconds, Sigma 8mm, f/3.5
