A friend and I were treated to a magnificent light show the night of September 25 2024, just west of the hamlet of Hellnar on Iceland’s Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This image was taken on a lark, after seeing an approaching car crest a nearby hill. I love the symmetry and leading lines of the road along with the lens flare caused by the car’s headlights…IMO, a unique take on aurora borealis images :)

I was in Grand Marais MN and the Aurora is always so 'intrusive" on the Milky Way. This time the colors just could not be ignored. Between the yellow of the light pollution and the green of the glow to the pink of the aurora this was truly a rainbow!

My one astro focused trip this year was to Bryce Canyon and the surrounding area in June. We managed to shoot for five nights and I got a number of decent images. This one of Swamp Canyon is my favorite because of the balance created between the tree and the Milky Way, the leading lines into the canyon and the air glow in the night sky.
